Flavopunctelia praesignis (Nyl.) Hale
Fruiting Speckled Greenshield
Flavopunctelia praesignis is foliose, pale gray- to yellow-green and grows on oaks and other hardwoods in the Gila. There are no soralia or isidia. The undersurface is black and rugose on the interior, with the margins of younger lobes smooth and brown. The medulla shows a color change to red in sodium hypochorite. There are numerous obvious pseudocyphellae (breaks in the cortex with white medullary hyphae showing) on the upper surface. There are also numerous marginal pycnidia on some of the mature lobes.
