Chrysactinia mexicana A. Gray
(Damianita)

Family: Asteraceae

Status: Native

Synonyms:
Pectis taxifolia Greene

Chrysactinia mexicana is a small shrub from a woody base. The leaves are small, sessile-glandular and nearly terete. The flowerheads are long pedunculate with 7-8 yellow ray flowers and around 20 yellow disc flowers. The pappus is of many bristles. Chrysactinia mexicana is found on rocky hillsides especially near limestone. Many thanks to Wendy Graves for showing us this location just outside the Silver City limits-- Dr. Dale A. Zimmerman collected this species from exactly this location nearly 50 years ago, so the population is doing well!
